Chronicles of Narnia – Voyage of the Dawn Treader – Movie Day

Well yesterday was the BIG day! The kids FINALLY went to see their Chronicles of Narnia – Voyage of the Dawn Treader at the Regal Cinema in 3D!  They were thrilled. 41f6O1wj1YL__SL160_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-dp,TopRight,12,-18_SH30_OU01_AA160_I think the best part is my hubby’s 101 Revenge of the Darth Treader jokes and other variations too many to recall.

My kids with their cohorts in Maine are NARNIA HEADS… they read allllllllllll the Narnia series books and guides at nauseam…. they study C.S. Lewis and his other works. In fact Nate, who keeps me on my toes…always tells me that “The Screw Tape Letters” should be required reading! Im working on it! They even found C.S. Lewis commentary bible… I never knew such a thing existed.

THIS NARNIA DAY in fact was the first time they ever went to a Chronicles of Narnia movie after the FIRST showing with Aunt Wendy in Maine! She also being a NARNIA HEAD always made great sacrifices to get them to the premier.

The kids in fact were astounded this year that ACTUALLY wasn’t taking them to the premier the night before their Christmas Concert they were singing and playing the saxophone  in! It worked out when I said NNNNNNNNOOOO WWWAYYY. Plus they learned about the beauty of matinee prices. In their world that extra few dollars meant ALOT! Especially for the Chronicles of Narnia – Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 3D!

Making Plans to Go See Narnia

To plan the trip was a huge undertaking…the wanted to go on the opening day last Friday but they had a Christmas Concert to sing and play sax in early Saturday. I never attempt to play SUPERMOM and schedule SOOO MANY things at the same time….PLUS I was terrified to go ANYWHERE with TWIN TODDLERS and a 5 year old bbbbyyyy myself! How would I get out of the car and take them……where. Where would I take all of them with no help! HOW did I do that 10 years ago with my oldest crew I’m not sure….seems like the definition of insanity now!

We attempted to sync up school responsibilities, the twins nap schedule, my doctor appointment drop-off and finances ALL at the same time. Amazingly it ALL synced up!

We drove to the town of my doctor appointment AND where my friend could meet the bottom 3 kids and I for a playdate at the local McDonald’s playland. playlandShe had coupons for free apple dippers and drinks and the works. Plus Kristine makes the whole mommy routine like a comedy act when she finished describing a day with her 4 kids that are 9 and under! I was cracking up! God loves me! One of the benefits of homeschooling is being able to catch that matinee price and less crowds!  They were elated!

TEEN REVIEW

Chronicles of Narnia – Voyage of the Dawn Threader

It was tricky to actually UNDERSTAND what they liked about the movie….mostly because I myself alas am NOT a Narnia head. I like the movies but I have not absorbed as much of it in as my kids. I DO KNOW THEY LOVED IT!

It was definitely worth seeing for OLDER kids they said due to the battle scenes that scares young ones.

They said the movie followed truer to form than the previous Narnia. They liked that. The also said they saw the biblical references in the movie when compared to the book. After Disney botched up the last Narnia movie Prince Caspian according to the kids…. by ditching main facts of the book like the AGE of the main characters….plus that fateful kiss they added before…they were GLAD that this movie followed the storyline better. The did like some of the artistic license the movie makers made as well.

Nanowrimo Novel Writing Class Moment…

That’s all I remember but they did BUZZ for an hour with each other dissecting the plot using their Nanowrimo novel writing new skills in character and subplot analysis from homeschool co-op to discuss the artistry of the movie. THAT part made me want to pat their teacher Deb on the back!

Overall it was well worth the money PLUS they enjoyed the FREE POPCORN and SODA refills that Regal Cinema offered. They ate so much popcorn, 3 tubs of it worth with butter that I could get them to eat dinner. NO ONE was HUNGRY!!!!

What a riot!
