STORK CRAFT CRIBS - LARGEST CRIB RECALL IN U.S. HISTORY ...PLEASE CHECK
If you know someone that has a baby that uses a crib, please take note that the largest crib recall in U.S. history was just announced. I just checked for the brand of my cribs, please check yours....

STORK CRAFT CRIBS RECALLED
Last night there was a massive voluntary recall of more than 2.1 million STORK CRAFT CRIBS cots in America and Canada.
The announcement was made by U.S. government officials after it was reported that:
15 infants and toddlers have become trapped in the drop-side cots - leading to four dying of suffocation. Lord please comfort those mom's and dad's hearts.
INSTALLATION PROBLEMS WITH THE STORK CRAFT CRIBS
The Stork Craft cribs have had problems with their hardware, which can break, deform or become missing after years.
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said THAT ASSEMBLY MISTAKES BY CRIB OWNERS can also BE PART OF THE PROBLEM . These problems can cause the drop-side to detach, creating a dangerous space between the drop-side and the crib mattress, where a child can become trapped. Parents could possibly accidentally install the cot upside, which can result in the drop-side parts breaking.
STORK CRAFT COMPANY CRIBS - BRAND NAMES
It is reported that all the cots were made by the Stork Craft company and sold in the U.S. and Canada.
Retailers include:
J.C. Penney, Kmart and Walmart stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Babiesrus.com, Costco.com and Walmart.com from May 2000 through January 2009 for between $100 and $400.
147,000 OF THEM INCLUDED the FISHER-PRICE logo WITH distribution dates between May 2000 and December 2004. The cribs were sold in various styles and finishes.
The manufacture date, model number, crib name, country of origin, and the name, address, and contact information are located on the assembly instruction sheet that is attached to the mattress support board under the crib.
The recall involves approximately 1,213,000 units distributed in the United States and 968,000 units distributed in Canada.
It was made by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), along with Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc., of British Columbia, Canada.
Sold at: Major retailers including J.C. Penney, Kmart and Walmart stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Babiesrus.com, Costco.com and Walmart.com from May 2000 through January 2009 for between $100 and $400.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A STORK CRAFT CRIB?
Recently parents have been advised to stop using a cot with drop-down sides.
CPSC said: 'We urge parents and caregivers to immediately stop using the recalled cribs, wait for the free repair kit, and do not attempt to fix the cribs without the kit.
'They should find an alternative, safe sleeping environment for their baby.
'Consumers should contact Stork Craft to receive a free repair kit that converts the drop-side on these cribs to a fixed side.'
The recall follows a total of 110 reported incidents of the drop-side breaking off.
I personally don't have one of hese cribs but will continue to be careful...
